Screen
Pencil & Pathways offers brief developmental and speech-language screenings for preschool and pre-kindergarten students, conveniently provided on campus. Screenings are designed to identify children who may benefit from additional monitoring, support, or comprehensive evaluation.
Developmental screenings are conducted by a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), while speech-language screenings are conducted by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
Why Early Screening Matters
Early screening can help identify developmental, speech, or language concerns before they begin to significantly interfere with learning and participation. When concerns are identified, families and schools can determine whether monitoring, targeted support, or additional evaluation is appropriate.

Developmental Screenings
Developmental screening provides a brief snapshot of a child's functioning across important areas of early development. Screening may consider:
— Motor development
— Early concepts and pre-academic skills
— Language development
— Self-help skills
— Social-emotional development
Pencil & Pathways uses standardized developmental screening measures, including the DIAL-4, to help identify areas of strength and potential concern. Screening results do not constitute a diagnosis or comprehensive evaluation.
Speech-Language Screenings
Speech-language screening provides a brief look at a child's communication development and may consider:
— Receptive and expressive language
— Speech sound production/articulation
— Social communication
— Voice and fluency, when appropriate
When screening results indicate a potential area of concern, a comprehensive speech-language evaluation or other follow-up may be recommended.
